LIM Supports the Design Community

picture-1.jpgWith the goal of giving emerging fashion designers access to professionals and insight on how to show their collections and develop their business models, the Philadelphia Fashion Incubator at Macy’s and the Fashion Group International of Philadelphia recently hosted Look + See, a panel discussion and line critique.

The evening started with a panel of industry experts panel that included myself, Samantha Sciolla, Store Manager for Nicole Miller in Philadelphia and New Jersey, and Ethan Nguyen, Owner of M Concept Shop, a specialty boutique. We shared insights on how to prepare for a meeting with a buyer, discussed the latest trends retailers are facing, and gave advice on how best to brand your business to get the retail community’s attention.

Designers also had the opportunity to show their lines to boutique owners, including the iconic Philadelphia fashion entrepreneur Joan Shepp and Negar Nabbagh, the proprietor of Pasha Boutique. While there were over 50 participants, each designer received a one-on-one meeting with one of the shop owners.

The Look + See event offered an opportunity to share business expertise with individuals who want to advance their design businesses — a perfect fit for a college focused on the business of fashion.
