Why I Moved 8300 Miles to Live in New York City

inda garments picture-1.jpgYes, you read that right, I moved to New York City on August 16, 2017 from a beautiful city called Bangalore in Southern India. Even though it has only been a little over two months since I moved, I have been dreaming about this phase of my life for over two years.

I was raised by a family where I was very well taken care of; I never lived on my own and never traveled abroad. Deciding to move to New York City on my own was such a huge leap for me!

I completed my undergraduate degree in Microbiology and Genetics. Although I love the statue of liberty picture.jpgsciences, I knew that pursuing a career in science wasn’t my calling. I needed to find a career that I could see myself doing for the rest of my life.

So I began my search for a fashion school that offered more than just fashion design. Throughout my final year of undergrad, I attended classes on weekends and got certified as an Image Consultant and Trainer. From that point on, there was no looking back.

I have worked with several groups and individuals in India on their personal style, wardrobe evaluation, Image makeovers and personal shopping. Having worked for a year as a personal stylist and shopper with Van Heusen, India, I knew I wanted to get my masters in the business of fashion.

building picture.jpgI began to research fashion schools in 2016. I first heard about LIM at a career fair in India. The more I researched about the school; the reviews I read, the people I spoke to, and that it’s located in New York City, the stronger I felt that it was perfect for what I wanted to do. The best part? It’s located right in the heart of the Big Apple!

It was like the universe just heard me, everything fell into place and here I am. I love LIM College, I couldn’t have asked for a better school. I’m a semester in and I am already interning at Hearst Magazines, working as a tutor on campus and attending classes in the evenings. The energy of this school is infectious, there is always something going on: workshops, conf

erences, career fair, cultural celebrations, the list is endless. I can already say I’m living the New Yorker life, hustling every day and loving every second of it.

I also manage a fashion and lifestyle blog under the name of Gloss and Grunge and having worked with so many brands in India, I’m so excited to be able to continue shooting and being a New York Blogger.

LIM has been making everything I dreamed of doing in New York City a reality and I cannot wait for this journey to get better and I’m very sure it will.
