At 4:30 am, Courtney, Lauren, Alyssa, Traci, Megan and Kyrstan set out on a journey, a mission to Rockefeller Plaza, to wait in line with the hopes of rocking out to Coldplay with hundreds of other fans. They take the 4 Train to 51^st street, and begin their two-hour wait on none other than the completely lit up 5^th Avenue. They take pictures with the posters they are given, laugh, and make their way to the entrance of the Today Show Plaza, where Coldplay is entertaining for this month’s Toyota Concert Series performance. It is windy, it is cold, it is claustrophobia central for many, but the music is extraordinary, the excitement and energy is contagious, and the videos taken and memories made here, in this small moment, will last a lifetime.

Yes, my friends and I really did this! One might not expect small town girls from Washington State, Mississippi, Georgia, Texas, and Michigan to do such a thing, but how can one not when living in New York City!? We went, we waited, we were welcomed, and man were we rewarded! As Coldplay began to flawlessly play some of their classics and a few new ones too, the plaza erupted with life and excitement. Heads were bobbing, bodies were moving, hands were waving, and mouths were sure “belting!” This coupled with the excitement of seeing the Today Show anchors up close and personal made for a unique, exceptional experience, which was unbelievably all for free!


As a student at LIM College you will surely have homework and internships, which are important, valuable experiences. However, remember where you are—you’re in the Big Apple! Take advantage of the fact that you are a resident of one of the greatest cities in the world. Take advantage of the opportunities that arise and allow you to explore the city, have fun with friends, and build upon the relationships and memories you are making as time goes by. This is a journey you will want to remember and cherish, so stop and smell the roses. When walking to class, look up, look around. Marvel at the buildings, the people, the culture, the pace of life.

Just as we set out on our journey to “Coldplay,” fearlessly set out on yours to LIM College and New York City. This city, where hard work shows through and dreams come true is waiting to welcome you. It is the perfect place for you to pursue your career aspirations. And I’ll let you in on a little secret—it’s a pretty fun place to live too!

Take a risk, take a chance, and do something out of the ordinary—something for you. We did, and it was unforgettable.
