Fashion's Night Out with Oscar de la Renta
posted by LIM College
Welcome back! I hope your summer was incredible. Mine sure was. There is something about a much-needed break that made me even more excited to return to NYC. Goodbye summer, goodbye Washington State, hello honking taxis, homework, and humidity. You’re probably thinking, “That doesn’t sound too great.” But trust me, I’m happier than ever being back at school! I love my classes, and I love feeling the energy of NYC as I walk to class. It’s inspiring.
I hope I find you excited for fall, but if you’re stuck in the “I wish it was still summer” rut, have no fear…New York Fashion Week is here...aka...the best mood booster! Fashion’s Night Out was a great “kick off” to the beginning of Fashion Week frenzy.
Fashion's Night Out celebrated its fourth year as the shopping extravaganza where retailers create exciting in-store events and shoppers join in on the festivities (music, food, celebrity meet and greets/appearances, and of course shopping). I was fortunate to spend this year’s Fashion's Night Out at the Oscar de la Renta store on Madison Avenue. This is where I completed my first-year internship, and the place where I worked with the greatest group of employees.
It was a night full of Spanish music, gorgeous gowns, and an appearance by Mr. de la Renta himself! He brought along friend Sarah Jessica Parker, took the mic, and serenaded her. It was surely a night to remember! This is just one example of the network you can build when attending LIM and interning.
Fashion's Night Out 2012 was a huge success and the perfect launching pad for Fashion Week. All eyes are on New York right now. On the designers, on the Spring 2013 collections. Eyes are peeled for fresh trends in the city where trendsetting is the norm.
As an LIM College student you will have an abundance of opportunities to volunteer at Fashion Week. Whether you are aiding the PR companies with set-up, dressing the models, or ushering guests, you will be living fashion at its finest. You will feel and experience the pulse of energy that New York Fashion Week propels through this city.
Check out style.com for the latest news and images straight off the runway. If you have an iPhone, get the style.com app. It's addicting! Find your favorites, create an inspiration board, form opinions, discover the trends. Just take it in.
Most of all, keep dreaming. Trust me, you can become the girl that “turned her can’ts into cans and her dreams into plans.” Your future in NYC and at LIM is sure to be bright as long as you believe it’s possible.
Until next week xoxo Court
