Finding Balance as a Fashion Student in New York

posted by LIM College

Hey friends!

This week I want to talk about something that fascinates me—the ability that we have as individuals to grow, evolve, and mature.

At the young age of 18, I packed up my room and took a seat on an NYC-bound airplane, determined to follow my passions to the city where crazy ideas are no longer deemed crazy, they’re cool. It was the beginning of a fresh journey that led me to where I stand today.

Over the course of a year I grew, I evolved, and I changed. I learned that things and experiences will come and go—Fashion Week will fly by, deadlines will be set and then met, the seasons will change in the blink of an eye. We cannot control the rate at which time or experiences pass through our life. Today, I feel like a new person, because I understand that what I can control is my mindset.  In my little world, I can control how I think and how I nourish my peace of mind.

So can you, and trust me, it will be an essential part of your success.  Finding balance, physically and emotionally, is paramount. Spending time in Central Park allows me to find peace in life’s most simple beauties—nature, relationships (I see the cutest elderly couples), and reflection. As an LIM College student I encourage you to find your little retreat—your place to go for thought and rejuvenation.

We are all equipped with the power to love ourselves and the people around us. We have the power to direct our energy towards what we are interested in and passionate about. When you reach a place of calm and content in your life, pursuing your wildest dreams will be more enjoyable. You will ride the ups and downs never faltering in your belief of reaching achievement. You will be confident speaking to possible employers. You will be assertive when searching for an internship in the fashion industry, and poised to conquer the fashion industry while still succeeding in school.

Since beginning my journey I have finally found balance. As a future LIM College student you have the opportunity to experience the same growth, evolution, and change that I did. I am so excited for you to inspire and empower others to do the same. Remember, you are here because you have a point of view, and a passion, and you need to speak it. You can control your destiny, and it all begins with the mind.

Until next week, be more mindful. Forgive more, and smile more. Be the best you!
