Central Park

Nothing compares to springtime in New York. Now that the weather is nicer, I’m usually always in a good mood and I actually enjoy my walks to class. Also, now with spring fully in bloom, it means I can spend my leisure time strolling around the city.

Of course, I haven’t really been able to fully enjoy spring yet because I’ve been stuck working and doing insane amounts of school work for the past month. However, a few weeks ago I spent the day at Central Park, which is probably my favorite place in the city. Not only is Central Park free to enjoy, it’s also beautiful! Walking around the park makes me forget that I am even in the city because I feel surrounded by nature.

One of my favorite places in Central Park is the zoo. Yes, Central Park has a zoo and even though it’s sort of small, it has tons of animals. There are polar bears, monkeys, sea lions, snow leopards, animals of the rainforest, and my personal favorite, penguins.  Admission is only ten dollars and you can spend the whole day there if you are really into animals. It’s better than staying home and watching Life, because nothing compares to seeing exotic animals up close and personal. Another perk of the zoo is that it is only a few blocks away from Serendipity 3, which I absolutely love even though it’s a total tourist spot. They are famous for their frozen hot chocolate, which is so good that I can’t even describe it. A little tip…if you are dying to try the frozen hot chocolate, go there after 9 p.m. because it’s usually not crowded so you will really have a chance to appreciate the ambience of the place.

My other favorite place in Central Park is the carousel. I have a weird obsession with carousels so I love the one in the park because it looks so old fashioned and makes me feel like a kid again. Also, the carousel is historic because of one my favorite books, The Catcher in the Rye. Another fun activity in the park is the row boats. You can just row around the lake and enjoy the scenery…but you have to watch out for the other boats!

I can’t wait until the semester is over so I can go spend my days in Central Park! Until then, I will just have to wistfully daydream about it.
