Good Advice from a Fashion Industry Professional

posted by LIM College

Lately, I feel as if my life has been defined by the phrase “all work, no play.”  I am going absolutely crazy!  Between finals, projects, searching for a Co-op (still looking!), I feel like I have no time to just take a deep breath and relax.

So to de-stress, I decided I would enjoy a movie this weekend. I took a few hours to spend time with friends and go see Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.  In another effort to de-stress, I found a new hobby…blogging! I know I write a blog here, but after all these years, I never launched my own blog. So I changed that this weekend and created my own blog and have quickly become addicted to it.

I also took the time this week to speak with an LIM College alumnus, Doug Jakubowksi, who is the Chief Merchandising Officer at Kenneth Cole. He has come to speak at LIM for some Fashion Survey classes and other events. I have come to know him through participating in the YMA/FSF scholarship.

Speaking with Doug and gaining insight from someone who is working in the industry made me feel so much better about Co-op, graduation, and all of the stress that comes along with being a college senior. He stressed that networking is absolutely key in this industry. He also talked about how important it is to be work hard, have the ability to learn and be passionate about what you’re doing, and know about current events.  All of the advice he gave me was super- helpful and I’m thankful that LIM helped me gain contact with such a respected industry professional.
