Freshman Year In NYC: A Fashion Student's Bucket List – Part II

posted by LIM College

  1. Go to Roosevelt Island! It's one of Manhattan's best-kept secrets. You can take the tram from East 59th St. and 2nd Avenue and enjoy the best views of Manhattan. There are even little restaurants, cafes, and ice cream shops on Roosevelt Island. It only takes about five minutes to get there and the tram departs every 8 minutes or so. You won't be disappointed - just have your camera ready!

  2. Go to South Street Seaport and take a water tour around the Empire State Building. The pictures will end up being memories for life!

  3. In the winter go and see the Xmas tree lighting at Rockefeller Center and ice skate underneath. It's a beautiful sight to see and a must for your freshman year of college in NYC. Then go back every winter and make it a tradition.

  4. If you're not a New Yorker (or even if you are a New Yorker), there is a NYC Gossip Girl tour bus that is supposedly great. It's relatively inexpensive and gives you a tour of all the "go-to" places around Manhattan. Grab a friend or two and make the most of your Upper East Side adventure!

  5. Go to our LIM College Fashion Show! Unfortunately, I wasn't able to go my freshman year, but every year after I have gone and I love it each and every time. This year we had a surprise appearance by legendary Sex & The City stylist Patricia Field. It's always filled with surprises, and you can even help create this fashion extravaganza by joining the Fashion Show Production Club. The goody bags are always really good too!

  6. Grab a free Metro newspaper at least once or twice a week after getting on or off of the subway. Not only will it keep you up to date on current events, but it will also help you out in interviews.

  7. Grab a friend and go to see a show! There is a place in the middle of Times Square called "Tkts" that sells Broadway tickets at discounted prices. As a frugal fashion student, I approve!
