A Strategic Start to the New Year

posted by LIM College

As 2011 begins, we are focused on raising LIM College to an even higher level within the fashion, business, and academic communities, while continuing to strengthen the services and opportunities we provide to our students.

To that end, the College is engaged in a comprehensive, institution-wide strategic planning effort that began last fall and will continue throughout the academic year. This process will allow us to both envision our desired future and set out a plan to achieve it.

This work is being led by a Strategic Planning Committee (SPC) composed of faculty and staff members, as well as alumni and student representatives. We’ve also assembled Alumni and Student Sub-Committees, so that their unique perspectives can be heard and acted upon.

There are a number of different ways that the entire LIM College community – including students, faculty, staff, alumni, and board members – will contribute to the strategic planning process, including serving on task forces, participating in surveys, and sharing their thoughts in focus groups and meetings.
During the first phase of the strategic planning process the College’s purpose, values, strengths and weaknesses were analyzed and the SPC established a vision statement, which is:

LIM College will be a model for 21st Century higher education, developing future leaders of fashion, in collaboration with industry partners, through relevant, experiential, and academically challenging programs.

The second phase of the strategic planning process began this month. Eight broad initiatives selected to support the vision statement will now be investigated by teams composed of five to seven members of the College community. They will reach out to faculty, staff, students, alumni, and industry representatives for information and input as they research their topics to formulate goals and action plans.

All ideas, concerns and insights are welcome and appreciated. This is an important project that will benefit everyone in the College community, and by working together as a community, I know we will make it extraordinarily successful.
