Over 200 LIM College students, faculty, staff, alumni and family members came together from October 7-9 to celebrate our sixth annual Family & Friends Weekend. I’m pleased to share a few highlights from an three exciting days of activities.
Friday’s “Vegas Night” — featuring our famous $5,000 “Drawdown” raffle to benefit the LIM Fashion Education Foundation — was loads of fun. Attendees played roulette, poker and blackjack, watched a clever illusionist, sang karaoke, and starred in their own .gifs at a special booth set up for the occasion. Congratulations to Jianna Luongo, winner of the $5,000 raffle prize!
On Saturday, in our annual Iron Merchant competition, Visual Merchandising students and alumni were presented with a themed reality challenge to showcase a specific product in just one hour. This year’s theme was centered around the Metropolitan Museum of Art Costume Institute’s Manus x Machina: Fashion in an Age of Technology exhibit and the winning team (pictured) was made up of two current LIM students — Elizabeth Hubing and Lyndsey Foresman — and alumna Jennifer Cohen.
Saturday afternoon was all about taking it easy. LIM College’s 1760 residence hall was temporarily turned into a spa as students and their family members relaxed with complimentary massages and manicures.
On Sunday, I was pleased to host a jazz brunch cruise on the Hudson River. Despite the less-than-ideal weather, we had a great time and saw several famous NYC landmarks, including the Statue of Liberty, Brooklyn Bridge, and the Freedom Tower. There was also quite bit of action on the dance floor!
It was wonderful to spend the weekend with so many of our students, alumni, faculty, staff and their families. I was so pleased to see many familiar faces from previous Family & Friends Weekends and hope that everyone — including those who couldn’t make it this time — will join us at Family & Friends Weekend next fall.
