Past, Present, Future: A Tribute to LIM College’s Alumni

posted by LIM College

As another calendar year comes to a close, my thoughts are on the future. Given the success of many of the talented women and men who have graduated from LIM throughout the decades, I can’t help but be optimistic about what’s in store for our current students as they move forward in pursuing their goals.

Over the past few months, WWD has run a series of profiles on successful LIM graduates. Luisa Herrera-Garcia ('88), Senior Vice President of Operations and Production at John Varvatos Enterprises, is a leading executive in the menswear arena with more than two decades of experience at brands including Calvin Klein, Perry Ellis, and PVH.

Bianca Caampued (‘07), Co-founder and Creative Director of Small Girls PR, has grown her start-up business into a 40-person, bi-coastal company and led projects for clients including Ann Taylor, Google, The Kingdom of the Netherlands, Simon & Schuster, and Verizon.

Doug Jakubowski (’83), is the President – North America, for FitFlop USA LLC. He’s also a member of the College’s Fashion Industry Advisory Board. With more than three decades of experience, Doug has held a variety of prominent positions, including Chief Merchandising Officer for Perry Ellis and Chief Merchandising Officer for Kenneth Cole Productions Inc.

In their interviews with WWD, Luisa, Bianca and Doug all credited LIM College’s comprehensive industry network and internship programs for supporting their career growth. Yet these three are only a few among the thousands of LIM alumni who have built, and are continuing to build, very impressive careers. Our graduates have made a name for themselves at companies both large and small — or are blazing their own trails as entrepreneurs with thriving start-up ventures — in fields such as merchandising, marketing, publishing, public relations, retail, event planning, and social media.

What’s more, our alumni remain an integral part of the College long after they complete their last course. On most days of the week, you can find graduates back on campus to mentor students, speak in classes, and hire interns. LIM College’s alumni make up a vibrant, international community of ambitious, dedicated professionals, and I’m grateful for the many contributions they’ve made, and continue to make, to our students’ success.

Best wishes to all for a happy and healthy holiday season and a wonderful New Year!
