Balancing School Life and a Social Life

When you’re in college, you’re going to be balancing a million things at once. It can be a bit hard to balance school, work, a social life, and anything else life throws at you. Today, I’ll talk to you about balancing a social life and school.

I’m not going to lie, when I first started college, I was not the best at balancing my social life and schoolwork. I’m still working on completely balancing everything, but I have gotten much better.

The first thing you need to do is prioritize. Especially in the beginning of the school year, everything seems so exciting. Everyone’s still getting used to living in the dorms, and living in Manhattan. That, of course, means exploring the city with your new friends.

Exploring the city is great, but it might not be in your best interest to go out when you know you have a paper due the next day. Although it’s annoying, sometimes you have to sacrifice time with your friends in order to be able to fulfill all your assignments.

Another tip I can give you is manage your time. If you stay on top of your assignments, you can make sure you have time for yourself. If you have a big paper due in a week, work on it a little every day, so by the weekend, you have enough time to go out with your friends. Also, you will feel less stressed, because you will know your assignments are completed, and you won’t be pulling an all-nighter trying to complete everything.

Lastly, be sure to don’t procrastinate! I feel like a little bit of a hypocrite right now, because I am a huge procrastinator, but I promise, I’m trying to stop.

Really, procrastination is almost inevitable, but it can be prevented. This ties in with the two other tips I gave you earlier, learning to prioritize and manage your time.

As soon as you get an assignment, you should try to start it right away, so you can get it out of the way. Even though it might be tempting to binge watch the last five seasons of The Walking Dead (that’s one of my favorite shows! :D), it can wait. If you get your assignments out of the way, you will have more time to yourself, and more time to see your friends.

So, to restate everything, remember to prioritize, manage your time to the best of your ability, and try your hardest not to procrastinate. I really hope these tips will help you balance your social life and schoolwork a little better!
