Fashion for All Foundation (FFA) is a non-profit organization that advocates for equality and diversity through education in the fashion industry. FFA founders Hannah Stoudemire and Ali Richmond, recently visited the LIM College Styling Club to give us insight on how the fashion industry works, how tough it can be, how to overcome those hardships through dedication, and how to show that anyone can be in the fashion industry, no matter their income, racial background, or mental or physical abilities.
Headquartered in Brooklyn, FFA’s mission is to “promote equality and diversity through education and empowerment in the fashion industry.” Inclusion is an important factor in their foundation. The founders presented opportunities for our club to participate in various community events, to learn about industry standards, and to meet industry leaders.
Since FFA’s visit with the Styling Club, two of these industry trips have already taken place: Students got to chat with two lead editors at Refinery29, and well as tour the Ralph Lauren archive library.
Through the Refinery29 experience, we were given major insight on how to properly brand yourself, what a healthy work ethic means, and how to successfully break into the media industry. We learned that it’s important to stay vigilant and on top of things, to give your body rest when needed, but most importantly, that sometimes you have to compromise to get to where you need to be. Not always an easy pill to swallow! But an important lesson; those who are successful are the ones that make the best of a bad situation.
Visiting the Ralph Lauren archive gave us a deep dive into the brand’s rich history, and what getting together a collection for the Ralph Lauren design team looks like. From this experience, we learned how important it is to take your own path and to stay adamant about chasing your dreams.
FFA is a strong supporter of the Styling Club and indicated that they will continue diligently notifying students when volunteer opportunities arise.
