Fashion Forward Kicks Off for Fall 2020

Fashion Forward is a fantastic career-focused program that was initially formed in the thick of the tough times of the Coronavirus, which left many LIM seniors without internships to finish their degrees. This program allowed them to develop their fashion-forward concepts in a safe, virtual way, and the same course has been applied to the Fall 2020 curriculum.

Zoom Event

The kickoff for Fall 2020’s Fashion Forward live was hosted on October 1st by the Career Internship Services (CIS) team and presented by Authentic Brands Group (ABG). ABG works with over 50 brands such as Sports IllustratedForever 21Nautica, and many others. With such a large portfolio ABG has expertise in legal, finance, marketing, brand management, business development, content creation, social media, and more. LIM students in this semester's Fashion Forward program will be assigned an ABG brand to focus their industry project on. I think they are bound to find a career that interests them and gain enriching work experience on these projects.

In this kickoff event, students taking the course were introduced to the advisors from ABG, the team they will be working with and the brand they will focus their project on. The goal of this course is to simulate a real-world experience that involves collaborating just as a team would at ABG. This experience will allow LIM students to apply what they have learned through their major and get an inside view on a multifaceted company like ABG. Haley Steinberg, an LIM Alum and ABG’s VP of PR and Corporate Communications, shared the steps the students will take and the resources ABG will provide them to succeed in their Fashion Forward projects.

In developing their ABG brand projects, the students must create a concept that will drive customer traffic to their brand’s online or in-person stores. They can come up with new product categories, partnerships with other brands or influencers, and much more. Students must keep in mind COVID regulations, the target market of Gen Z/Millennials, and budget restrictions. With these guidelines having room for creativity and innovation, it will be exciting to see what the students come up with. At the end of the semester, the students will present their projects to LIM faculty and staff as well as industry leaders within the ABG team.

Best of luck to all of the students taking part in Fashion Forward this fall. A huge thanks to Authentic Brands Group for working with LIM students this semester.
