New York City: The Best Place to Study for a Career in Fashion

brooklyn bridge aaronHello, everyone! I am Yat-Kit Ku, but everyone calls me Aaron. I am a sophomore majoring in Marketing at LIM College and came to New York all the way from Hong Kong. I know, I know, it probably sounds pretty crazy to you that I traveled 8,000 plus miles away from home just to go to college here, but I figured I have only one chance to chase my dreams. I am studying fashion after all, so of course I have to be here in New York City.

Before starting at LIM College, I went to a boarding high school up in Maine (yes, I did get to pull out all my fancy coats and jackets for the weather, if you are wondering) for 4 years before I started college in New York City. My parents and I decided I should further pursue my education in the United States because there are so many opportunities and sources of knowledge that I won’t be able to find back home. I have always known that I wanted to have a career in the fashion industry. Thankfully, my parents have been very supportive by giving me this opportunity to study in New York City, as I know it is the place to be for careers in fashion.

LIM College was on my radar when I decided I wanted to be on the business side of the fashion industry, as it is completely dedicated to this. The school is great at giving students internship opportunities every year and as I always say, “the opportunities are always there, everything is up to you and how badly you want it.”

Now, after a year at LIM, I think there is nothing more precious and important than a school that will let you explore and try what you want to do with your life in the future through internships and volunteer opportunities.

When I first came to LIM College I was a Fashion Merchandising major, but some of my fashion industry internship opportunities led me to Marketing, which really sparked my interest. I don’t want to be one of those graduates that will wonder what they should do with their life after they throw their cap in the air. Luckily, I know LIM College is giving me the tools I need to have a successful future.

So, if you know you want to have a career in the business of fashion and you are reading this, then you are in the right place. Living here in the city that never sleeps and studying fashion in the fashion capital of the world, I don’t think it can get better than this.

Hope to see you soon!
