LIM College Eats: My Top Spots Near the Residence Hall

posted by Mickayla Beben

Being a college student on a budget in NYC creates a challenge in finding affordable restaurants or takeout. In this #LIMCollegeEats blog, I’ll share my top restaurants and cafés surrounding the 1760 Residence Hall, and I’ll include a range of different cuisines.

Original ZestyZesty’s Pizzeria | $ | Pizza | 1670 3rd Ave

This spot’s name speaks for itself. As college students, we always need a pizzeria within walking distance, and Zesty’s does not disappoint. In addition to pizza, they have burgers, heroes, wings, and pasta dishes.

NarutoNaruto Ramen | $$ | Ramen | 1596 3rd Ave

Holy yum! Naruto Ramen is the perfect place to slurp delicious brothy goodness. I find it most fulfilling when there’s a storm outside, but whenever you have a hankering for ramen, just head down 3rd Ave. However, keep in mind this spot has limited seating.

Frenchy CoffeeFrenchy Coffee NYC | $ | Café | 129 E 102nd St.

Homemade pastries and an array of coffee and tea options. Need I say more? Oh, they also have oat milk. Stop in for breakfast or snag a table to complete some schoolwork.

Burrito Y MasBurritos Y Mas NY Tex-Mex | $$ | Mexican/Burritos | 1571 Lexington Ave

A Texan told me their burrito was the best he has ever had. Let that sink in. With vegetarian/vegan options on the menu and large portions, Burritos Y Mas is not only closer, but probably better than Chipotle. Their delivery is also very speedy.

MaliiMalii | $$ | Thai | 2028 2nd Ave

Ah, Malii. My heart swoons, as this is one of my absolute favorite restaurants. It’s a short uptown walk from the Residence Hall, but worth it. The small space is cozy, and it’s the perfect spot to meet up with friends. I think Malii offers the best Thai food around, and everyone can find something on the menu. Whether you’re into something spicy, or seafood, or if you need vegetarian options, everything is delicious! Get the most bang for your buck by visiting during their lunch hour, 11:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Wok 88Wok 88 | $$ | Chinese | 1570 3rd Ave

Convenient Chinese is another must-have staple of eating out. Wok 88 is great for groups and offers lunch specials too, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Enjoy the free hot tea and large portions!
