Quick Tips For Returning To College

Getting back into the swing of things can be stressful. Personally, I am motivated and excited to start classes and be on campus again. For others, it might be hard to find motivation. There are also a few tips that I recommend before classes start.

1) Remind yourself why you love your major, why you choose LIM College, and why college is important to you!

By simply reminding yourself why you do what you do will motivate you enough. Sometimes all it takes is a daily reminder of why you are going to college. Maybe it is to start your own business, become a marketing director, or a buyer for a luxury brand. Write down why you are excited for this upcoming semester or why you are nervous. Jotting down your feelings can possibly help you de-stress. Jotting down your feelings of why you are excited will motivate you, even more, to be ready to return to college in the fall.

2) Create your scheduleScreen Shot 2020-08-06 at 3.48.20 PM

Because we have three separate buildings with classrooms, I recommend writing down what classes you have every day with the location. That way you are prepared with what building you must walk to every day. I also recommend checking Sonis to recheck that any of your classes has not changed times or locations. 3) Get finances figured out

Before classes begin, I recommend making sure you do not owe the school a balance. It is important to either set up a payment plan or take out a private loan in advance to school starting, so you do not have to deal with any issues later in the fall.

4) Plan your monthly budget

I like to plan out how much I can spend a month. NYC is super expensive, and it is important to budget yourself, so you do not run out of money. Setting up a quick budget list before school starts will help with getting used to spending money and not all at once.

5) Start going to bed and waking up at a reasonable time

When I was in middle school the week before school started my mom would make my sister and I go to sleep super early and wake up around 8 or 9 am so that we got used to going to sleep at a good time and waking up early. Starting a routine before school starts will make it less hard the first week we go back.

Even though this year might be different we are all in this together and we will make the most out of it. We are very lucky LIM is allowing us to come back on campus and to decide what types of classes we can take.
