What's to Love at LIM: The New Fashion Media Major

posted by John Deming, Director of The Writing Center, Lecturer

Every month here on the blog going forward, look for our What's to Love at LIM post—this is where we'll write about something we find to be pretty cool or newsworthy about LIM College that as a prospective student, you'll definitely want to know about. First up: our new Fashion Media major. Dream of editing at one of the biggest glossies in NYC, or working at a fast-paced PR firm? Our new major, beginning fall 2017, could be right up your alley. Here's a little about it.

WhatToLove.jpgWhat you'll learn: The hands-on curriculum for our undergraduate Fashion Media major—a four-year bachelor of science program—incorporates writing, editing, styling, layout, and photography for all kinds of mediums, digital and print. And through internships at very impressive companies (think Hearst Magazines, NY Daily News, Self magazine) and the opportunity to work on LIM's student magazine, The Lexington Line, you'll learn how to put everything you're studying in class into real practice.

What courses you'll take: However or wherever you plan to be a storyteller in the world of fashion, our courses have you covered. A few examples of what you'll take: Public Speaking, Fashion Styling Essentials, Fashion Photography, Video Production and Editing, News Reporting and Writing, Integrated Marketing Communications, Intellectual Property, The Power of the Brand, Global Media & Communications, and Ethics. (Check out the full curriculum here.)

What kinds of careers you'll be prepared for: After four years of learning about emerging technologies, producing content, developing media plans, composing visually compelling layouts, and more, you'll be prepared for a number of roles in the fashion media industry. Picture yourself as an art director, copywriter, creative director, fashion journalist, marketing director, photo editor, promotions manager, social media coordinator, or a video director; these are just a few examples of where a degree in fashion media from LIM College can take you throughout your career.

Think you'd love majoring in fashion media? Let us know, so we can send you more information about it right away. One thing we can tell you right now: there's no doubt it'll be a popular major, and we can't wait to get it started!
