Who is the Department of Experiential Education & Career Management?

posted by Sharon Mella-Reyes

It is with great pleasure that I introduce the Department of Experiential Education & Career Management. So, who are we and what can we do for you?

The Department of Experiential Education & Career Management oversees the Experiential Education courses required in each program of study. These courses are generally comprised of both a classroom component and a practical internship. We coordinate the students, professors, and industry partners involved in our programs to ensure that all parties have positive, meaningful experiences. The Department of EECM also provides assistance to all LIM College students seeking employment and career guidance. We advise all undergraduate and graduate students and alumni in reviewing interests, aptitudes, and job openings. In addition, we provide resume and cover letter assistance, conduct mock interviews, and host a variety of career-related fairs, workshops, and networking opportunities throughout the year.

We are located at Maxwell Hall (216 East 45th Street) 8th Floor. All advisors maintain their schedules in Symplicity so you can make appointments as needed. In addition, we hold walk in hours for new students in need of general assistance. Check Axis TV, Bulletin Boards, Emails and advertisements on campus for additional details and events. Emails and voice messages to the Department are responded to within 48 business hours.

This blog will serve as a place for the Department to share insights on how to get the most out of your experiential education experiences while a student here at LIM and how to prepare yourself for your professional life post-graduation. Our twice-monthly posts will cover such topics as “Career paths in fashion,” “What are professional organizations and what can they do for me?,” “How to negotiate salary,” and more.

Things to look forward to this academic year are the following: LinkedIn Workshops, Career Day 2014 in October and Career Day 2015 in April, the CEO Speaker Series, FindSpark Fashion Conference 2015, and The DREAM Dinner, in addition to various panels throughout the year. Stay tuned for more!
