Brooklyn Museum Exhibit: Gravity and Grace

You must go. Although it has been several days since I viewed this impressive exhibit of colorful metal links hanging from walls and ceilings, I still feel the impact of the creations by El Anatsui.  The exhibition of his sculpture is also his first solo show in New York and should not be missed.

El Anatsui, who was born in Ghana, incorporates colorful discarded pieces of metal to create enormous textured hangings that move and drape like textiles. In addition, short videos throughout the exhibit provide a look inside El Anatsui’s African workshops and convey his affable and expressive personality.

Note: The Brooklyn museum offers a student discount on admission, has free admission days once a month, and a pay-what-you-wish option. The show ends August 4, 2013.
