The Successes and Hardships of Fashion Entrepreneurship

Written by LIM College | 10/5/12 5:22 PM

While it is required to participate in the ‘Intro to Visual Merchandising’ course as an LIM College freshman, I somehow pushed it off until Spring semester of sophomore year, as I was wary of the workload.

Yet if you’re a creative person – this will be heaven to you. This class with Professor King is the reason I switched into Visual Merchandising and I couldn’t be happier.

The requirements for our final project included creating our own store, incorporating display boards to showcase the marketing and promotion, inspiration, and overall visual design. Creating a mission statement and business concept is also vital in carrying across an identity to establish your brand. This is the ultimate struggle with entrepreneurship; getting it all up and running.

Fiddling around with jewelry-making and having recently started up an Etsy shop, this project was a perfect opportunity to have my accessories business come to life. Pouring all my creative, constructive, and business-oriented energy into my online shop, I’ve learned a great deal about the hardships and successes of independent business in fashion. It is possible to manifest your passions into your work and I aspire to further my business and expand it into an entrepreneurial career.
