In a testament to the value of LIM College’s longstanding practice of combining academic study in business principles with real-world experience, a recent study measuring colleges’ contributions to undergraduate student outcomes identified LIM as being among the top 10% of four-year colleges in the nation.
The report from the Brookings Institution, titled, “Using earnings data to rank colleges: A value-added approach updated with College Scorecard data,” ranked 3,173 two-and-four-year institutions. Each received a “value-added” score based on the earnings of alumni. Value-added measures attempt to isolate the contribution of the college to student outcomes, distinct from what might be predicted based on student characteristics or degree level. Data used in the study was drawn from the U.S. Department of Education’s College Scorecard database, which was designed to allow the public to see how well institutions throughout the country are serving their students. According to the College Scorecard, the median salary of LIM students 10 years after entering college is 42% higher than the national average.
Visual Merchandising students Jennifer Cohen and Dori Rhode also got invaluable professional exposure, and helped raise funds for a good cause, as part of a team that designed DIFFA’s (Design Industries Foundation Fighting AIDS) Gift For Life Holiday Pop-Up Shop. All sales at the shop benefitted Gift For Life and DIFFA, which provides grants to HIV/AIDS organizations across the country.
These projects are just a sample of the career-building opportunities our students enjoy throughout the year. As we celebrate the holidays and prepare for the start of a new year, I look forward to bringing you even more good news about their activities and accomplishments.
