My Experience In The LIM Mentor Program

I'll start off by saying that I personally think this is one of the best programs run by the school. It allows a student to gain experience, aid other students, and build connections. This is my second year receiving an offer letter to be a student mentor for the coming year. The experience so far has been a highlight of my LIM College experience.

This year, the interview process was very different than it was the previous year due to the pandemic. Usually, there is a group process where they see how you interact with others and observe how you handle specific situations. Then, you would have an interview in front of a group of staff and faculty members. This year, the group process was skipped, and people instantly went into the interviews. For my interview, I had two faculty members interviewing me, and it was a fifteen-minute time limit. Overall, it was a brief experience but a good one. Another thing that will be different will be not having a mentor camp. It was a weeklong bonding trip where all the mentors attend. It was so much fun getting to know all the other mentors and doing fun activities. It also was very enlightening on my strengths and weaknesses. The experience has allowed me to grow as a person and leader. I believe there will be a substitute for this experience, but if not, it is still a great process to be a part of.

A week ago, I received my offer letter to be an orientation leader for both domestic and international students, along with a position as a peer advising leader. I loved working as an OL last summer and before the spring semester started. I was able to meet so many new people and I was able to offer advice to incoming students. I am excited to continue this position and work with the rest of the orientation leaders. I am also excited to work as a Peer Advising Leader in the Academic Advising office. I look forward to working there in the fall. I also hear from many of my friends that they love the mentor program. Everyone who is apart of it seems to absolutely love it.
