Social Media Geek to Men's Fashion Content

Posted by LIM College on Mon, Dec 12, 2011 @ 09:48 AM

I've had the quite the career change lately. I've gone from being a social media geek to handling all of StyleCaster's men's fashion content. With the change of pace things have been crazy - but so much fun I assure you.

I had event after event this past week. On Wednesday, my favorite men's fashion e-commerce, Park & Bond, teamed up with GQ magazine to open up a pop-up shop on 14th street. I was invited to attend the opening VIP night and mix and mingle with fashion editors and Chace Crawford. I had a few store opening events as well.

The week was great! Make sure to follow me on @StyleCasterJTM and to check on StyleCaster for my writing!

Styling a Shoot and Tweeting Like a Madman

Posted by LIM College on Mon, Dec 05, 2011 @ 01:28 PM

Things have been crazy busy over at the StyleCaster offices. We've been pushing out article after article and doing photoshoot after photoshoot. It's so exciting!

My social media efforts are only growing and I'm tweeting like a mad man on the loose! Most recently, I got to do something so totally awesome! I got to style a shoot! It was so cool! We used one brand and I got to style a model for it. Not to toot my own horn, but I totally killed it! I even got to snap some of the photos. I'll make sure to let you all know when the photos go live.

First Week at StyleCaster: A Fashion Article and a Fashion Event

Posted by LIM College on Thu, Nov 10, 2011 @ 09:55 AM

StyleCaster has been absolutely amazing this past week! I've been thrown right into things and it's all starting to come together.

I was able to learn all about some new analytical tools and ways to measure my ROI on social media - which is awesome to know. I also got to sit in on a few sales meetings as well as team meetings -- I really feel like a part of the family there.

And that's not all. I got to write my first article for the fashion section about Proenza Schouler releasing a new travel bag; it's great!

I got to a great event last night at the SoHo Grand Hotel called "London Show Rooms" which brings London fashion designers to us to look at their collections and there was some great stuff! Like this great skirt with studs by a London fashion designer Holly Fulton.

A New Fashion Internship Opportunity in Social Media

Posted by LIM College on Wed, Nov 02, 2011 @ 10:03 AM

I always like to keep my eyes and ears open for new opportunities. Luckily, my ears were open at the right time.

A friend had told me about an opportunity available at the awesome website StyleCaster. Well, I left the CFDA and I am now over at StyleCaster working as a social media intern as well as a content writer. So I'll get to tweet about awesome events and write some amazing things. I'm also covering February Fashion Week for the mens shows so that should be exciting.

So make sure to tweet to me @StyleCasterJTM.describe the image

One More Thing: Becoming a Fashion Designer's Social Media Intern

Posted by LIM College on Tue, Oct 25, 2011 @ 09:55 AM

This past week has been crazy busy with the semester almost ending and so much going on over at the CFDA Incubator. I love it though.

Somehow I always manage to add one more thing to my plate, to send one last email, to post one last image, or do one last tweet - and I just love it all. That being said, in typical, workaholic fashion I took on one more thing.

I was recommended by my current boss at the CFDA for an open position at Prabal Gurung - as a social media and content intern. Of course, I jumped at such an amazing opportunity and wrote my first post for Prabal's "Journal" that day. I love taking on new tasks because everything is a learning experience and I love pushing myself!

Social Media in the Fashion Industry: Obsess Yourself

Posted by LIM College on Mon, Oct 17, 2011 @ 01:32 PM

In the buzzing and always busy world of social media you must stay on top of everything that's current. Obsess yourself with your industry. Specifically, in fashion, where social media (twitter, tumblr, facebook) is so huge right now. It allows us to connect with everyone on the same platform and reach people we wouldn't normally be able to reach.

I always enjoy my time working in social media - it takes me back to my days as a geek. While working at the CFDA Fashion Incubator I am in charge of maintaining the Facebook and Tumblr pages for the {INC}. You would think everyone's an adult on these platforms - but just like a kid, we want cute silly images and words.

Luckily, this weekend I got a quick break in posting this picture of Miss Piggy wearing Prabal Gurung who is one of our Incubator designers and the image instantly went viral. I think one thing I took away from this is to not over-think it when it comes to social media. It's usually pretty simple.

Sunglasses at Night? The Council of Fashion Designers of Amercia Joins Forces with Bloggers

Posted by LIM College on Thu, Oct 06, 2011 @ 09:05 AM

The Council of Fashion Designers of America is, in layman's terms, the "Board" of fashion. People listen to them, they abide by their rules, their events are major!

With the recent influx of bloggers storming the fashion scene, we feel the need to include them. After all, they are the target market of designers and people are listening to them. So why not include them in design?

Blogger Leandra Medine of the “The Man Repeller” has done countless collaborations with brands such as Tibi and has also recently created her own shoe.

The CFDA teamed up with fashion bloggers to create their own Vogue sunglasses for the recently launched “City Collection,” which includes sunglasses and frames created by fashion bloggers as well as people who are rising in the industry -- like the people in this photo, who are wearing their own designs.

Fashion and Social Media: Never Stop Networking

Posted by LIM College on Mon, Sep 19, 2011 @ 01:42 PM

While this post nothing to do with the CFDA it has a lot to do with reaping benefits from any internship. Internships are the best place to network with anyone possible. Especially if you work in social media as I do.

We twitter mavens have this little sacred thing known as a tweet up; in which all who handle a twitter account step away from their TweetDecks or HootSuite and get together.

I was lucky enough to meet the lovely ladies who handle social media for the effortlessly chic brand known as Tibi at such an event. You may be asking what is the point, well, this networking event led to an invite to sit front row at the Tibi S/S 2012 fashion show.

First row seats are coveted, as is an invite to any show. These shows are also amazing networking events and give you the chance to mingle with industry professionals. Lesson of the story? Never stop networking, you never know where you might be invited to go.
