Today we went to the Santa Maria Novella church in Florence, Italy, which right across from the main railway station. This is the first great basilica in Florence and the church, the adjoining cloister, and the chapter house contain a wide variety of art treasures and funerary monuments.
Especially famous are frescoes by masters of Gothic and early Renaissance, which were financed by the most important Florentine families, who wanted to make sure they would have funerary chapels on the grounds.
