What to Wear

posted by LIM College

One of my biggest questions before I moved to New York City was, “Where am I going to shop?” Now, being a fashion student, you would think that I have no problem spending money on clothes, but really I do. I can’t justify spending too much money on something, so for me finding a place to shop is pretty hard. One suggestion I would make if you are anything like me, is to shop for things before you come. Although your bags will be heavier and you may have more luggage, you will ultimately save money if you buy it at home rather than in Manhattan. I also had no idea what the dress code was going to be like before I got here. I was thinking that everyone was going to look all done up every day. In this aspect, I can say that LIM College is just like a lot of other colleges. We wear what is comfortable most of the time. We do have awesome style though, even if it is with our Ugg boots and yoga pants.

If you aren’t from New York City or the surrounding areas, you may not know that the city has a style of its own. We wear a lot of black, a lot of leggings and depending on the area of NYC, a lot of funky pairings. Although any other style is welcome here and encouraged, that is just how the bulk of New York City dresses. I didn’t know this moving here, but now I am glad I do. I am used to the West Coast style, and let me tell you, it’s much different.

After being here for a year I have a much better understanding of the kinds of clothes I am going to need for the next three years. Some of the places I shop are H&M, Forever 21, Strawberry, American Eagle and even Uniqlo sometimes. Let me know if you know of any other places that aren’t too expensive but still have cute clothes. These are just my favorites!
