Tips for Success at LIM College

posted by LIM College

Two weeks of school complete and I am back in the swing of things! I am enjoying each and every one of my classes, all of my teachers, and my friends and I are having a blast as 2012 is officially underway! Remember a while back, in my very first blog, when I told you that I would have you LIM College-ready as soon as you stepped onto the sidewalks of NYC? Well, I am sticking to that promise, so this blog is all about tips and pointers to being not only an A-list student, but an A-list liver and learner too!

First, it is important to attend school with the attitude that knowledge is everywhere, waiting to be found and taken in. In a nutshell, LIM College is packed with opportunity. Not only will you have access to a wealth of academic resources, but also to the prospect of building connections with teachers who have been in the industry themselves. So my advice to you is to not only be a student, but to be an active student. Utilize what is around you. LIM College will give you the world, everything under the sun that could possibly be needed to achieve success. However, it is up to you to decide what you will do with it. Will you grab ahold of it all, or will you simply exist rather than experience?

My Dad is the one to call if you want to hear cheesy inspirational quotes, but I am actually going to pass one onto you. The other day he texted me, “With great power comes responsibility,” and I feel that this quote is fitting for my advice. LIM College will surely give you the power to succeed, but it is your responsibility to grab it and run on your very own path. I never thought I’d be saying this, but thanks Dad for the inspiration!

So here are some quick tips:

  • Visit our library! Packed with a wealth of texts and archives, it will be monumental in not only allowing you to complete assignments, but to simply add to your own personal knowledge as well.

  • Take advantage of living in a constantly moving and changing fashion capital. Volunteer at Fashion Week, and keep up on your news knowledge. Read the NY Times and Women’s Wear Daily!

  • Lastly, have fun and be healthy! Enjoy the city with your friends, and take the occasional trip to Central Park to run, walk, and clear your mind. It is so worth it.

I could go on for days with my advice for you since I am here living and learning every day, but I will save some tips for next time too. Stay tuned for my experiences at Fashion Week, and also for an overview of some of my fun class projects!

Until next week, here is a wonderful phrase that I learned in French…A tes souhaits! It means may all your wishes come true, and that indeed is my dream for you!
