Running in Heels - Working at a Fashion Magazine

posted by LIM College staff Staff Profiles Desktops & Documents lola.rephann My Documents website BLOGS Hubspot Blogs Short Takes AudreyOngI would like to become a success at a fashion publication myself, which is part of the reason that I attend a fashion business college.  This entertaining reality show on the Style network gave an interesting impression of what it is like to try to make it at an established international fashion magazine.  Running in Heels follows three interns (Talita Silva, Ashley Gosik, Samantha Dezur) as they work and compete for a job at Marie Claire.

The episodes show the tedious tasks that a real magazine internship requires, not just the glamorous and exciting life of an intern’s dream—launch parties, interviewing talented people, working the red carpet.  Pressure builds as each intern tries to be the best, and to impress the editor-in-chief, Joanna Coles, and everyone on the ladder above them.  Egos are ripped apart when Coles evaluates and criticizes them.

The stress increases when the three girls do not get along but are stuck living together in one apartment.  Soon, however, they put aside differences and begin to support one another. At the conclusion, the futures of the interns is not that surprising.  Hardworking Talita was offered a job as a West Coast editor for Marie Claire, while optimistic Samantha Dezur was told that she’d be better off in public relations. Sneaky Ashley Gosik was advised to not try to elbow her way to the top. Viewers can pick up tips about what to do and not to do at a lucrative fashion magazine, but nothing could take the place of firsthand experience.
