Last September when I walked in for an interview, my heart had been set on working in the fashion closet because my major is merchandising with a minor in styling. But it turned out that booking and productions was an education in the working of the whole company. Booking participates in photo shoots, editorials, hiring models, location scouting, and all travel arrangements. The department also hires make-up, hair, and sometimes even prop stylists. The best part for me was that bookings and production also deals with event planning, and that gave me an advantage over every other intern at Allure. For every department—editorial, art department, and the fashion closet—I was right there to assist as needed. I even did some tasks for Linda Wells, the Editor-in-Chief.

My supervisors Ro and Dina treated me like a valued established employee, not just an ordinary intern. When mentors allow you varied responsibilities, one matures a bit daily. I must admit, it is tough being a college student, working very hard, and not earning a penny. But because I enjoyed what I was doing, I didn’t mind. Learning so much made me look forward to going to work every day. I would choose the learning experience over the money anytime. If one has that mindset, success lies ahead.
