Meeting a Fashion Great: Carmen Marc Valvo

posted by LIM College

It is amazing how many opportunities LIM College students get to network with the best of the best in the fashion industry. Just some of the names we have had come through the doors of LIM College are Kelly Cutrone, Eric Daman, Amy Astley, Stephen Burrows, and Phillip Bloch, and every one of them astounded me and never in a million years did I think I would be able to meet these people. Last week I again had the profound privilege of meeting another great in the fashion industry, Mr. Carmen Marc Valvo.

When you meet an extremely successful and tenured designer there is always a feeling of being star-struck, and in this case it was absolutely no different. I received Mr. Valvo’s new book and had the opportunity to speak to him and have him sign it.

First of all, the book is absolutely beautiful. If you know anything about Mr. Valvo’s designs you know that his eveningwear is to die for and when shown in the glossy pages of the 175-page book it is quite possible that they couldn’t get any prettier -- until you see them in person. For the book-signing Mr. Valvo had brought four of his stunning creations to display on mannequins. They were all beautiful, and even the dress from the cover of the book was featured at the event.

It is hard to believe that after so much success, one can be so humble and approachable, but if anyone fits that description, it is Mr. Carmen Marc Valvo. Mr. Valvo is easily one of the most friendly, easy to talk to and accessible people I have ever had the pleasure of meeting and it comes as no surprise to me how he has been so successful in the industry without the use of tricks, lies, or deceit.

We had the sincere pleasure of listening to Mr. Valvo talk about his career starting out, starting his own business, and where he is headed as a designer. I look forward to the next time I see Mr. Valvo and I know he still has a long career ahead of him.
